Most of us have shared some food with our dog, but many foods are dangerous, even lethal to your furry friend. Here are some foods to never give your dog:
Alcohol
No sharing beer or cocktails with your pet! Alcohol and hops can cause coma and death.
Avocado
May cause indigestion and diarrhea.
Chocolate
Contains theobromine which can be toxic and affect the heart and nervous system. Be careful not to leave chocolate laying around, because dogs love the taste of it! Symptoms of chocolate poisoning include vomiting, muscle tremors and increased urination.
Coffee and Tea
Caffeine affects the heart and central nervous system. Symptoms include vomiting, a rapid heart beat and may lead to death.
Fat Trimmings from Meat
The high fat concentration could lead to a bout of pancreatitis. Symptoms range from mild to life threatening.
Grapes and Raisins
Contain an unknown toxin that can cause kidney damage.
Macadamia Nuts
Contain an unknown toxin that can cause tremors and muscle weakness.
Onions and Garlic
Contain sulfoxides and disulfides that can cause anemia and damage of red blood cells.
Potatoes (which are green) or the Sprouts
Contain solanine glycosides that may cause vomiting, abdominal pain, depression, paralysis and cardiac arrest.
Human Vitamin Supplements Containing Iron
May damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to organs such as the liver or kidney.
Mushrooms
May contain toxins which may affect multiple systems in the body, cause shock and result in death.
Tobacco
The nicotine in tobacco may result in rapid heart beat, collapse, coma, and death.
