Subject: A Warning about Teacup and Micro dogs
Content: If you have bought a teacup or if you are planning on it, be warned that Teacup and Micro dogs are nothing more than a marketing ploy.   Specifically Chihuahuas and Maltese, for both these breeds the Breed Standard for a normal maltese or chihuahua says the dog should be "under 7 pounds"(for chihuahuas it's under 6 pounds)  so that means a STANDARD sized Chi or Maltese should be under 7 pounds, don't let people fool you into beliveing they are making a "new" smaller sized Chi or Maltese called a micro or teacup it's just not true.   Dogs that are less than 3 pounds as adults have a much higher early mortality rate than other dogs.   "Teacup" breeders do not do health tests, they try to get away with the bare minimal in vet care and sell the pups for $500-$2000 to try and increase their profit as much as they can.   If you want a small dog go to a breeder that does health testing sopecific to the breed.  A "vet check" is NEVER good enough to breed the dog,  the dog should be x-rayed and have blood tests done to make sure it isn't passing on any hidden health problems.
